Tired of the usual celebrations, the folks at CCDF decided to do things different. They hosted their friends, business associates and partners to a day of golf and a night of entertainment and recognition.
The day start with the igloo bowl golf tournament. “I knew it was cold when a penguin walked by when I went to putt,” commented Métis Nation-Saskatchewan President Robert Doucette. The golf tournament was unique in that it was a Texas scramble for fun and everyone received the same prizes, and a cold nose and a bit of windburn. It was a chilly day that hampered most teams except mine.
After a quick break for everyone to go have a warm tub, everyone reconvened at Prairieland Park for a gala banquet and entertainment hosted by myself and my crazy cousin from Ille a la Crosse, Ernestine, played by the amazing Maureen Belanger. It turns out Ernestine walked all the way from Ille a la Crosse to help emcee the event and still she was as sharp as ever.
The staff at the Fund took the evening to reflect on the work and the people from the past decade and to thank those before them for their work. Tasteful prints were gifted to dear friends and partners and door prizes and giveaways were the order of the day.
To top off the night, John and Vicki Arcand hit the stage. They played with some youth fiddlers then played for a jigging demonstration from some youth. Then world champion jigger Brent Potskin from Edmonton took the stage and jigged like crazy.
The evening was a fitting tribute to good things happening for the Métis people of Saskatchewan and to the work of the Clarence Campeau Development Fund.
